Mr. brendan hagan

Mr. Hagan serves as the Learning Leader for the Fine and Performing Arts Program at Western Canada High School. Routinely, Mr. Hagan’s Bands at Western are applauded for their advanced musical skill, maturity in musicianship and professionalism in performance.

Mr. Hagan holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education with Distinction from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Education (Master of Teaching), also from the University of Calgary. He is a recent graduate from Gonzaga University in Washington, where he attained a Masters Degree in Leadership and Administration.

As a conductor and educator, Mr. Hagan is active nationally and internationally. He has served as Associate Conductor of the National Academy Orchestra of Canada and is a frequent guest conductor with the University of Calgary Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. In the United States, he has served as adjunct faculty at Notre Dame High School in Chicago, Illinois and has enjoyed recording as a conductor with the University of North Texas Symphonic Band. He has recently served as a keynote speaker for the Disney Performing Arts “Inspiring Excellence” Program.

Passion, Class and Excellence is a guiding vision statement of The Band Program at Western. Mr. Hagan enjoys working with the incredible community of 350+ Band students at Western to instill a passion for achieving excellence in every facet of life while always striving to be a model citizen.

Mr. Hagan has been nominated for both the Edwin Parr award and the Prime Minister’s Teaching Excellence Awards. He is a proud recipient of The Alberta Provincial Excellence in Teaching Award.
